Creating opportunities for our clients, team and community
Beyond our personal and professional achievements, we are deeply committed to making a positive impact within the community.
The Kain Foundation
Kain Lawyers has built one of Australia’s most impactful workplace giving programs through the Kain Foundation, established in 2004. This program is intentionally embedded in our DNA, enshrined in our founding values, purpose, recruitment processes and operational structures.
Every employee contributes 1.25% of their gross remuneration to the Foundation, with donations matched dollar-for-dollar by our firm’s owners. This funding, coupled with a requirement that all staff volunteer annually, ensures the Foundation provides both a financial and hands-on contribution to the communities it supports, in partnership with local partners.
Our strategic alignment of organisational commitment, payroll giving, volunteering and matched funding ensures long-term sustainability. Importantly, we link the scale of our community investment to business performance, meaning that as our firm grows, so does our social impact.
Tailored to people and purpose
Our model is a critical pillar of our people and culture commitment. From recruitment, new hires are introduced to our community ethos, with giving and volunteering woven into interviews and onboarding. Each employee is immediately placed into a Foundation-supported program, ensuring early and meaningful engagement.
By tailoring opportunities across mentoring, educational workshops, international immersion trips, and project support, the program allows staff to contribute in ways that align with their skills and passions. This breadth of choice fosters personal enrichment and a strong sense of shared purpose.
Outstanding results and impact
With 100% participation across staff and shareholders, over 7,291 volunteering hours and $2.5 million raised since inception, the program has delivered significant community benefit. The Northern Opportunities pathways program has boosted student confidence and career readiness, while the Junior Landcare Project has improved food security, education and sustainability in 24 Ugandan schools.
Benefits are equally profound within our firm. In the most recent biannual staff survey, 92% reported enhanced job satisfaction as a result of workplace giving and 100% believe it makes a difference to communities supported. These results underpin low attrition rates, strong recruitment appeal and high levels of team pride.
A benchmark for Australia
Kain’s workplace giving program exemplifies best practice giving in Australia: strategically embedded, people-centred and community-focused. Its combination of financial giving, volunteer commitment and long-term sustainability showcases how businesses can create transformative impact when values, culture and purpose align.
2025 Workplace Giving Australia Awards
We were proud to be recognised as winners of the 2025 Workplace Giving Program of the Year at the Workplace Giving Australia Awards. This award recognises a gold-standard, holistic workplace giving program that sets the benchmark for excellence. We are incredibly proud of our program’s growing community impact, made possible by the combined contribution of every team member in partnership with the Kain Foundation.
2024 Uganda Immersion Trip
In September 2024, a six-member team travelled to Uganda for an immersion trip, spending two weeks with the Uganda Landcare Network. During this time, they visited several of the 20 schools supported by the Kain Foundation and explored further opportunities to advance community-led initiatives that empower children and young people.
